"Just do right. Right may not be expedient. It may not be profitable. But it will satisfy your soul"- Maya Angelou (April 4, 1928 - May 28th, 2014)

The loss of Dr. Maya Angelou is one that is tremendously devastating for me. I can’t really put into words how I feel at this moment, but I do know that I feel like a part of me is missing. No I did not know Maya Angelou, nor have I ever met her, but as a young woman of color, SHE WAS ME and I WAS HER. I’ve performed in drama shows for school, recited her poems, and watched movies and documentaries of her and works all of my life. It was only last week where I re-watched her Oprah Master Class interview, where I once again felt so inspired. Inspired not just to “Do right”, but inspired to be ME, who God made me to be, to be free. IDK maybe I’m rambling, but I think Maya Angelou was apart of all of us, no matter what race we are, because she has influenced the very people who influences us daily. There is not a soul on this earth who was not touched by Maya Angelou in some way and she will be greatly missed.

Cheers to you Dr. Angelou! A true legend.
